This article reports that the environmental education is one special case in the transition process, able to contribute to liaison between primary and secondary teachers and, in so doing, aid both the pastoral and academic interchange. The primary school head, and the head of lower school of the secondary, should welcome positive intervention by environmentalists. It is essential that the coordinators for environmental education work through these two senior staff members when initiating any contact between schools. The publishers are understandably keen to sell their products and invariably fail to stipulate target ages, except in very broad terms. Some series, and one has been involved as the authors, are written in such a way as to be suitable for upper juniors and lower seniors. This is good for business but not good for the secondary school needing to have fresh material for the eager newcomer. It should be possible to enable teachers from one phase to experience life in the other phase. It is all a question of where there's a will there's a way including making a positive use of surplus staff time arising from the departure of years 10 and 12 when external examinations are concluded.
