The article reports that the state of Oregon participates in the West Coast Governors' Global Warming Initiative, a cooperative effort to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In April 2005, Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski announced initiatives to curb GHG emissions in the state. Based on the findings of the Governor's Advisory Group on Global Warming, presented in the report Oregon Strategy for Greenhouse Gas Reduction, Kulongoski encouraged legislators to pass bills that promote alternative fuels markets, encourage renewable forms of electricity, allow state agencies to develop renewable forms of energy for state use, and require minimum energy efficiency standards for certain products used in the state. However, back at the state house, members of the Oregon House voted in June to ban state agencies from imposing rules to control GHGs.
