The article describes the conservation treatment of a mid-eighteenth century japanned corner cabinet acquired by the Geffrye Museum in London, England. It states that an interesting but not uncommon thing about the cabinet, which was made and decorated in about 1740, is that gold leaf has been used for the raised areas but bronze paint is used for the surrounding flat areas rather than more leaf. The cabinet's varnish was thinned mechanically with 0000 steel wool, using Stoddard Solvent as a lubricant.
