The article offers information on the environmental factors contributing in the development of myopia and prevalence of the disease in the children of U.S. and Australia and other Asian countries. Topics discussed were chronic nearsightedness in East Asia linking diminishing levels of exposure to outdoor light, myopia as genetic disorder and measures such as atropine eye drops and special eye exercises taken by Asian countries in attempts to prevent or postpone myopia in children.
