The article assesses whether adult literacy skills predict self-rated health status beyond educational credentials in participants from 17 developed countries. The study used the Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) survey and linear regression models to predict self-rated health. It showed low literacy-related health disparities in countries with higher public health expenditure and curriculum standardization contributed in reducing literacy gradients.
