The article reports that several patients with raised liver function test (LFT) results are not being followed up for disease screening in Great Britain. According to a study presented at the 2008 meeting of the British Society of Gastroenterology, only 12% of the 172 cases analyzed were screened for underlying viral, metabolic or autoimmune liver disease. The study also revealed that general practitioners (GPs) do not routinely conduct follow-up LFT tests or refer patients to specialists.
