The article discusses the views of the 18th-century German philosopher Immanuel Kant on love as a normative value, and the author's own views on practical love. She discusses a number of prevailing interpretations of love as the desire to promote the happiness and well-being of the loved person, and then articulates her variant interpretation of love as sharing in the aims of the loved one.
