In this article the author discusses proposals which have been suggested to change the phrase do not resuscitate to the phrase allow to die naturally. He is supportive of the proposals and suggests that the change should help reduce stress and feelings of guilt among all parties and may encourage clinicians to initiate the discussion of terminal care with suitable patients or relatives more often. He suggests that the phrase do not resuscitate is often misunderstood.
