The article reports on the impact of less rains experienced in India on agricultural growth of the country in 2009. Farms in India reportedly account for some 17% of the $1 trillion Indian economy as well as support half of the country's billion-plus population. The annual rains in India, which begins in June, were 45% below normal. RPG Foundation economist D. H. Pai Panandikar said that if the rain situation continues throughout June, farm output for the year to March 2010 will fall to 1%.
