The article presents chapter 11 from the book "The House of Lords in the Age of George III (1760-1811),” by Michael W. McCahill, discussing the political dynamics and influence of public opinion within the British House of Lords from 1784 to 1811 at the end of the active reign of King George III. Discussion is given outlining the various forms of public opinion and public pressure which emerged throughout Great Britain during the period and the responses by the House of Lords to them. The particular incidents of the Irish commercial proposals of 1785 are examined in depth as a case example of the political attitudes of the peers.
