The livestock has always been a prime factor contributing mainly in economic development of a nation. The estimate from study reveled that there are 39.87 percent cow and 49.04 percent buffaloes in district Dewas. An increasing trend is observed in number of buffalo breeds on the contray it is decreasing for cow beeds. The growth rate in milk production is 9.14 percent till 2007-08. Imbalance feed and fodder to milch animals may be the one of the reasons for poor growth rate of milk production. A farmer has to bear an annual average cost of Rs. 12912.32 and Rs. 52875.30 for keeping a single cow and a buffalo respectively and the net profit out of this is calculated to be Rs. 5272.00 and 17539.95 respectively. Though different enomalis exist in animal husbandry and farmers have to losses still it is a profitable enteprise. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
