The article presents a study investigating possible difference in serum neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (Ngal) levels between dehydrated and control patients. Ngal has been reported as a promising biomarker for early detection of acute kidney injury but no study has been conducted yet to examine its potential clinical impact in patients with normal renal function. The presence of elevated Ngal levels in dehydrated patients which was bserved in this study suggests its role as a very sensitive biomarker in even minimal and silent prerenal kidney dysfunction.
