The article presents a profile of Scottish philosopher David Hume, and explores his thoughts on the nature of global justice. Hume believed in the interdependence of ethics and epistemology, arguing that man's concept of justice is influenced by both knowledge of others and by human sentiment. Unlike fellow philosopher Thomas Hobbes, he did not insist on a sovereign state or entity as a necessity for global justice, but felt that the boundaries of justice are greater than that of governments. It is argued that Hume's philosophy is pertinent today in addressing global and environmental issues by understanding the interconnectedness of populations around the world and between generations.
