This article focuses on the history of "fortschrittliche Landwirte," a term created by the historian Hans-Heinrich Müller to describe nobility from the Margraviate of Brandenburg, a state in the Holy Roman Empire, that carried out innovations that were circulated by the Prussian ruler King Frederick II. Several topics are discussed including how after the Seven Years War there was an increase in agricultural innovations that were popularized because Prussian nobles, such as Ewald Friedrich Duke of Herzberg, Friedrich Eberhard von Rochow, and Helene Charlotte von Friedland, instituted them in their estates, how the members of the the Chivalric Order of Saint John in Brandenburg got involved in land cultivation, and the research of the historian Wolfgang Neugebauer.
