Единого общепринятого метода ТМТ в настоящее время нет, в связи с чем требуется оптимальный протокол для выполнения данного вида исследования, что поможет получать достоверные результаты в оценке повседневной функциональной активности больных и эффективности различных методов лечения периферического атеросклероза. Выбор оптимальной методики выполнения ТМТ у пациентов с перемежающейся хромотой крайне важен в связи с тем, что исследования только гемодинамических показателей не всегда четко отражают функциональные особенности течения заболевания, так как последние зависят не только от наличия артериальных стенозов либо окклюзий, но и активности оксидативных ферментов, эндотелиальной и митохондриальной дисфункции, приема лекарственных препаратов, сопутствующей патологии и ряда прочих факторов. В обзоре представлены имеющиеся в базах Medline, PubMed, РИНЦ, Scopus литературные данные относительно ТМТ у пациентов с заболеваниями периферических артерий. Обобщена основная информация, представленная в 63 источниках литературы, за период с 1970-х гг. по 2018 г.
