A main figure in the history of Moldova, Metropolitan Veniamin Costachi has had an essential role not only in the ecclesiastical area, but on the political life as well, where he distinguished himself through his activity in solving national issues, with love for his nation and patriotism. The article sheds light on the position the ilustious prelate has taken regarding the annexation of Basarabia in 1812, as well as the efforts he made for recovering the church estates fallen under russian control.
