Contemporary world is characterized by the global processes, technical progress, and cross-sectoral partnerships. There are a lot of discussions on collaboration between higher education and business, political arrangements and practical decisions are made at different levels that enable to cross the sector boundaries. However the interaction between higher education and business is not always smooth. Collaborating parties set different goals of collaboration, are characterized by different cultures, and have unequal expectations concerning collaborative outcomes. This article seeks to answer the following questions: How are the models of partnership between higher education and business characterized? What are the cultural gaps between higher education and business organizations? What are the barriers to partnership between higher education and business? What disturbs equivalent partnership in the opinion of representatives of the higher education institutions? The object of the presented research is the disturbance of equivalent partnership between higher education and business. The aim of the research is to identify the disturbance of equivalent partnership between higher education and business in the opinion of representatives of the higher education institutions. The research objectives are: 1) to reveal the main characteristics of models of partnership between higher education and business; 2) to designate the cultural gaps between higher education and business organizations; 3) to identify the barriers and disturbance of equivalent partnership between higher education and business. The analysis and systematization of scientific literature, interview, and content analysis methods were used when conducting the research. The research used the material of 11 interviews with the representatives of higher education institutions focusing on the disturbance of partnership between higher education and business. The results of theoretical analysis show that the collaboration between higher education and business is characterized by scholars in several directions: describing partnering organizations, their experiences of collaboration, operating environments, levels or the process of co-operating by describing its different stages. When describing the terms of partnership, it becomes clear that there are principal differences of organizational cultures in higher education and business. Partners differ in their attitudes towards the operating priorities, approach to dissemination of their results in society, funding and payment for work. These differences cause the barriers to partnership that can be classified by their nature into institutional, cultural, economic, organizational, geographical location of organization. Empirical results show that in the point of view of representatives of higher education the following disturbance as institutional gaps in readiness to cooperate, different perception of the process of scientific discovery, incorrect treatment of partners from the business sector by scientists themselves, the lack of funding for the collaborative research with business exist due to these barriers. In the institutions of higher education the condition and prerequisite of disturbance elimination is sequential modification of scientists' attitudes realizing that the higher education has already been operating under the market conditions, and there is required a partner that is necessary to accept as equal to oneself in order to implement the "third mission". [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
