The objective of this study was to gain insight into how children and youth accept capoeira, to look at the effect that capoeira has on children's development and to see which recommendations the coaches have for their future work with capoeira. This qualitative research was based on interviews with nine capoeira coaches from Croatia and the data was processed by the thematic data analysis. Results showed that children and youth generally accepted capoeira well. One of the benefits of capoeira is a sense of acceptance and belonging. Also, through practicing capoeira children learn about tolerating diversity and about improving social skills, self-esteem and self-confidence. Furthermore, capoeira offers flexibility according to individual children's needs, it promotes a non-competitive and collaborative environment, encourages children to be physically active and provides an opportunity for socialization and re-socialization of children. It also helps children in developing openness to different cultures and in developing their musicality. Challenges and opportunities for the improvement of guiding young people through capoeira are shown in respecting the individuality of children, understanding the actual child's developmental needs and monitoring and integrating individuality and needs of children.
