The choice between low foodstuff prices, in a time when they are needed as never before and preferential protection for the benefit of habitually pampered interests disguised as needy German agriculture may well become a Waterloo for Chancellor Heinrich Brüning Government. The situation at the moment is a serious one; it is crucial in the sense that it supplies a touchstone to test the contention of extreme left elements that the present regime is basically reactionary in its aims and also to determine whether the Social Democratic Party has turned its back completely on the principles which once distinguished it.
