The article discusses the possible effects of the democratic tendencies in the world on Japan, in the wake of the overthrow of the Romanoff dynasty in Russia. The entry of the United States into the war for the purpose of aiding the cause of democracy seemed to further intensify the problem. The democratic spirit is spreading and becoming more powerful in Japan. There are, indeed, nominally three classes in society, but practically these distinctions are not strictly maintained. But politically, the democratic tendency has suffered a setback in Japan recently.
