The façade of a supporting pillar, which supports the southeast corner of the three-nave of the Bratislava Cathedral, used to bear a remarkable Renaissance epitaph of the family of Wolfgang Kögl (" 1587) - a long-time town councillor, butler, captain, bourgeois and mayor. The epitaph was still there in the middle of the 20th century. The work consisted of three basic parts: a central relief scene surrounded by two caryatids, an inset in the form of a lettering plaque placed in a Renaissance aedicula complemented by an allegorical statue of Love (Caritas), and the bottom part, represented by a second signboard with side consoles and a quadrant of volutes. Out of these elements, an exceptionally valuable central relief has been preserved in the Cathedral crypt, but the other parts are considered missing according to the scientific literature. The article sheds light on the hitherto unknown fate of the epitaph related to the great restoration of the St. Martin's Cathedral in the second half of the 20th century. It was during this time that the decision was made in 1958 to restore the work. However, due to its dilapidated condition, the restorers made a copy of almost the entire tombstone, which - supplemented by the original central relief and the lower signboard - was to be installed in its original location. However, this never happened and the elements were later removed from the St. Martin's Cathedral, leaving only the most valuable part of the epitaph - the central relief. Most of the fragments were found, identified and documented by the author of the article: several original elements of the tombstone and copies thereof were preserved at the premises of the Roman Catholic Parish Office of St. Martin in Kapitulská Street in Bratislava. Unfortunately, the originals of the two caryatids are apparently lost forever, but their replicas are currently displayed in the former Sigismund Imperial Oratory of the Bratislava Cathedral as part of the exhibition there.
