With its Latin American roots, the term refers primarily to the works of South American writers such as: Jorge Luis Borges, Gabriel García Márquez, Julio Cortazar, Alejo Carpentier or Isabel Allende et al. The artistic current called magic realism achieves a unity of opposites: life and death, precolonial past and post-industrial present. It approaches two aspects that, under normal conditions, are antagonistic: the rational perspective on reality and the acceptance of the supernatural as a prosaic reality. Within this literary artistic orientation, the most realistic descriptions are combined with fantastic and dreamlike elements, with motifs from myths and fairy tales. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
