Helicobacter pylori infection is usually acquired during the first five years of life. Development and clinical outcome of the infection are determined by numerous virulence factors, certain host genotype factors, and socioeconomic lifestyle. H. pylori eradication can interrupt the natural course of the chronic infection and can reduce the incidence and risk of peptic ulcers. There are many treatment regimens, but there is no definitive treatment regimen and the eradication of H. pylori with only one antibiotic, moreover, some antibiotics cannot be used for children. Over time, eradication of the infection becomes more difficult. Optimizing eradication regimens would not only reduce the spread of H. pylori in the population but would also reduce the resistance rates. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
