Using cytotoxicity assay (MTT) and plaque reduction assay* extracts of 17 kinds of edible fungi were evaluated for their antiviral efficacy against the herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) and 2 strains of enterovirus 71 (Ev71), EV71-CSFI4 and EV71-PTPS in vitro. The results showed that water extracts of Amauroder marudis and Sarcodon imbricatus exhibited good antiviral activity. The therapeutic indices (TIs) of A. marudis water extract against HSV-1, EV71-CSFI4 and EV71-PTPS were 32. 17, 30.05 and 21. 55, respectively. The therapeutic indices (TIs) of S. imbricatus water extract against EV71-CSFI4 and EV71-PTPS were 95. 35 and 112. 22, respectively. Therefore, A. marudis and S. imbricatus showed potential antiviral ability to be developed into antiviral therapeutics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
