Liver biopsy is an indispensable invasive diagnostic method - the “gold standard“ used to diagnose several liver diseases. Small piece of liver tissue is examined histologically, cytologically and immunofluorescently. This is crucial for the correct diagnosis, evaluation of the effect of treatment and prognosis of many diseases. Complications of liver biopsy vary from 0.01% to 15.2%, according to various authors. Depending on the technique, several types are distinguished: percutaneous (blind) liver biopsy by the Menghini method, thin-needle aspiration biopsy, target biopsy during laparoscopic surgery, and transjugular liver biopsy (TJLB). It is necessary to strike a balance between patient safety, correct and accurate diagnosis, the effect of treatment applied. There is also a significant importance of introducing new diagnostic methods in medicine. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
