The anti-church struggle of the normalization process systematically focused mainly on priests. During the first two decades of atheist totalitarianism, their number was reduced by half - from 2,465 priests in 1948 to 1,210 priests in 1968. In the period of normalization, the decline was slower (out of 1,497 priests in the pastoral care in 1971 in 1988 there were 1,341), but the average age of the clergymen, which was 62 years in 1987, was rising, and the planned strategy of gradual extinction would have become radical until the next decade. The main topic of this paper is the motives of priestly celibacy and the formation for its adoption. According to his research, the author presents the results related to this topic, so it means how celibacy was perceived, experienced and how candidates for the priesthood were prepared for it in the years and the environment of the secret priestly formation of the normalization period (1968-1988).
