Reformation spread in Spiš provostship in 16th century brought a change of the confessional structure of its population. Spiš region then gradually turned into protestant and that is also conserved in canonical visitations, which were done in 17th and 18th century. Canonical visitations are not only the oldest sources, but they are also a source of very great historiccognitive value. The aim of this study is to show the status of individual parishes of Polish Spiš in 17th and 18th century on the basis of the available canonical visitions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
