The native language is the expression of catharsis and spirit. The original text in native languages contains the culture of the region, the history and the background of the words. While the translation of the literary collections has made literature accessible to wider readers, it has also raised an important question whether the translation can successfully transmit the original spirit of the text -- the local cultural expressions? Translating poetic texts is most intricate because the problem might not lie in translating words only, but the real challenge is to conform the stylistic beauty, as well as its figurative cultural specific expressions to the target language. Punjabi literature and poetry is a centuries old and important heritage of Pakistani culture rooted back in the Subcontinent. One of the most celebrated Punjabi Sufi poet Bhulleh Shah's poetry written in specific style called "Kafi" carries the message of selflessness, humanitarianism, love, harmony, introspection and spiritual closeness with God has been translated into other languages including Urdu, the national language of Pakistan. Bhule Shah's Kafis are expression of the intricacies of inner (heart) events and mysticism in the original Punjabi language. When the narrative of originality, locality, culture and nativity are translated, such a deprivation is felt in understanding the context as if a few links of the chain are lost that causes a state of tension. Many of the verses in Bhule Shah's Kafis have become the forms of everyday expressions, for instance, translation of "Bhulla Ki Janan mein kone" (Bhulla what I know of myself). Its translation seems easy, however conservancy of cultural aesthetic, native taste and symbolic meanings when the works are transferred from source language to target language is prime challenge for the translators. This article explores the challenges and limitations of Urdu translation of Bhule Shah's Kafis in maintaining the cultural genesis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
