The aim of the article is to identify development trends in biobanking and the potential for its further development in the future on the basis of data from several areas. The analysis of development trends is based on data from scientific studies, data available on the websites of international organizations operating in the field of biobanking, data from Scopus databases and databases of research projects funded by the EU and Horizon 2020 programs. A higher growth in the number of biobanks began to take place since the 1990s, and this growth has accelerated since 2000. In addition to the emergence of new biobanks, it is possible in recent decades to see the increase in the number of scientific interest in biobanking, scientific research projects related to biobanking and also organizations operating in this field. This indicates, the strong anchoring of the topic of biobanking and its high potential for further growth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
