The paper summarizes the results of a qualitative study into the features of social support available to parents of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). When a child is diagnosed with autism, the entire family is highly vulnerable, while the parents find themselves facing stress, and multiple pressures and challenges in their daily lives. Addressing this topic, we understand that there is no one-size-fits-all solution to providing support and assistance to parents. What is important, however, is that assistance is there when parents need it. Assistance should be available to them by means of information, expert support, and integration of services, to relieve their stress and improve the quality of their daily lives. The research examined how parents of children with ASDs perceive the support they receive from formal and informal social networks. It included seven parental pairs, i.e. seven mothers and seven fathers, whose children had been identified as having ASDs via a special education needs decision as early as during their entry into preschool programmes. Research findings suggest that parents of children with ASDs are critical of the level of accessibility and quality of social support from professional services in various areas, from healthcare or social services to education. While calling attention to flaws in the systemic regulation of the field, research participants also perceive social the support they receive from their informal networks as weak. V prispevku predstavimo rezultate kvalitativne študije, v kateri smo raziskovali značilnosti socialne opore staršev otrok z motnjo avtističnega spektra (v nadaljevanju MAS). Družine so ob seznanjenosti otroka z diagnozo avtizma posebej ranljive, starši pa v vsakdanjem življenju izpostavljeni stresu, številnim obremenitvam in izzivom. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
