The aim of this research is to analyze the challenges for the performance of medical activities in SOMC in the conditions of the pandemic and in particular in the COVID-19 zones. Material and methods: A documentary and sociological method was used. 138 former Coronavirus patients and 74 physicians working in SOMC were surveyed. Results and discussion: Throughout the illness, 38.1 % of the subjects were examined by a lung disease specialist, 54.5 % had an X-ray examination of the lungs, and 17.6 % had a blood test. 67.3 % had not used the so-called “green corridors”. The impossibility to see a physician increases the stress in 71.3 % of the patients under home treatment and could lead to a delay in the modification of treatment (38.9 %) and the hospitalization (11.4 %). 79.4% of the surveyed physicians maintain that the role and importance of the activities in SOMC are severely underestimated. According to 52.7 % of the physicians, the patients have no timely access to them. Findings: The structuring of the COVID-19 zones is delayed in time. There are regulatory, infrastructural and personnel obstacles to the activity of these structures. The fragmented schedule of the so-called “green corridors” for COVID-19 patients hinders the timely access to a specialist, and delays the diagnosis and treatment of these patients. Conclusion: The COVID-19 pandemic put the medical institutions in new conditions, which require the health managers' adequacy, flexibility and determination from the health managers, in order to achieve an effective change in the activity on the different levels of the healthcare system, incl. the SOMC.
