Introduction: Frailty is a syndrome that increases morbidity and mortality in older adults; Furthermore, due to its relationship with a pro-inflammatory state, multiple biomarkers have been studied to understand the causal mechanisms. Objective: The objective of this scoping review is to identify the main inflammatory biomarkers of frailty syndrome and their relationship with mortality. Methods: A search was carried out in 6 Recibido: 5 de agosto 2021 electronic databases, articles published between 1964-2017 that related biomarkers with frailty and morbidity and mortality in older adults were considered, including 15 articles for complete analysis. Results: 93.3 % of the studies are prospective observational, one used Cross-Sectional analysis. 46.6 % related the biomarkers measured with the development of frailty, 33.3 % related the biomarkers with the development of frailty and mortality. IL-6 was measured in 86.6 % of the studies, TNF-a in 60 %, and CRP in 40 %. Conclusion: Against the evidence, inflammatory markers have been described to confirm the correlation of a chronic proinflammatory phenomenon and increased mortality and frailty in the elderly. According to the review findings, the biomarkers IL-6 and TNF-a, are more useful as predictors of the development of frailty and mortality in this population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
