Objective: Analyze the influence of sex on health conditions, lifestyle and use of medical services in patients admitted to a teaching hospital. Methods: A quantitative and cross-sectional study was carried out by telephone survey with 445 patients admitted to a university hospital in 2018. Sex was considered as a dependent variable and as independent variables: the characteristics of health, lifestyle and use of health services. Bivariate analysis and logistic regression were performed. Results: There was an association between male gender and current addiction (OR = 2.9) or prior to alcohol (OR = 8.3), length of stay above three and seven days (OR = 2.7) and the longest referral to the primary health care unit (OR = 2.1). Conclusion: It was concluded that men have a higher predilection for alcohol use, stay longer hospitalized and have more referrals to health services. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
