COVID-19 is a newly emerged disease. The first cases were reported in December 2019. SARS-CoV-2 rapidly spread all over the world, and in March 2020 World Health Organization declared a pandemic that still persists. In 80% of the cases SARS-CoV-2 infection is asymptomatic or presents as a mild or moderate disease. A severe disease is observed in about 20% of the infected, and 5% of them develop a severe respiratory failure. Advanced age, comorbidities such as cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases, as well as cancer and immunosuppression are discussed to be the risk factors for a severe illness. COVID-19 takes a severe course in people with obesity. We herein present a case report of a 17-year-old patient with obesity, who was treated in the Department of Infectious Diseases of Pazardzhik Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment. The patient experienced a severe COVID-19 with bilateral pneumonia and the development of respiratory failure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
