This article presents a study to identify the dimensions of Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI). Over a period of about one year, the booklet form of the MMPI was administered at time of admission to 65 female and 49 male consecutive admittees to a psychiatric hospital. Age of the patients ranged from 17 to 75 years with a mean of 31.5. Diagnostically, the group was heterogeneous with about half receiving a diagnosis of schizophrenia. Patients suspected of having cerebral damage were not included. At time of discharge, the MMPI was re-administered and the patients were rated by a psychiatrist on a five point scale of overall improvement. Eighteen per cent were rated as greatly improved, 64% as having shown some improvement, and 18% were seen as unchanged.
