This article focuses on an electroencephalographic pattern, called 6 and 14 per second positive spikes. The increasing number of patients in the younger age groups admitted to the Institute of Living, Hartford, Connecticut, primarily for personality disorders and the coincidental increase of reports of 6 and 14 per second positive spiking in the routine admission electroencephalograms (EEG) examinations has prompted the present study. This study has sought to ascertain whether distinguishing characteristics exist between patients with acting-out behavior patterns with 6 and 14 per second positive spikes and those with the behavior symptoms but without the abnormal EEG configuration.
