Primarily, the network of the churches on the episcopal estates was securing curam animarum for the subjects of the bishops and, to a lesser extent, of the neighboring feudal lords. The parishes in the central localities (oppida) were also partaking in the economic administration of the bishopric estates (notary) — local pastors received a share from the income of the district; these duties probably disappeared during the first half of the 14th century. The bishop of Prague incorporated some, usually richer, parishes into other prebends participating in the church administration, but he often retained influence over these churches as well. A thorough evaluation of the application of the patronage law by the Archbishop of Prague will be possible only after completing the database of the Church topography of medieval Bohemia; however, the archbishop’s office did not seem to follow any well-thought-out strategies in this matter but rather acted on an ad hoc basis. Moreover, the office approached her pastors with considerable restraint when enforcing the obligation to register each confirmation in the relevant Liber Confirmationum. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
