Objective: In a part of our society, people prefer clothes that cover the head and extremities due to their beliefs. In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between exposure to sunlight and vitamin D (VD) in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT). Material and Methods: The VD levels of the patients diagnosed with PHPT who applied to the adult Endocrine Unit of Dicle University Faculty of Medicine between June 2014 and August 2021 were recorded. These individuals were categorized according to the sun exposure of the head and extremities. The groups; parathyroid hormone (PTH), 25-hydroxyvitamin D, calcium, phosphorus, thyroid hormones and other biochemical parameters were compared using appropriate statistical methods. Results: Of the 76 people, 66 (86.8%) were female and 10 (13.2%) were male. Among these, the mean age of 18 people (23.7%) with sun exposure in Group 1 was 40.2±13.1 (years), and the mean age of 58 people (76.3%) with low sun exposure in Group 2 was 52.6±12.3 (years). All of those with less exposure to the sun were women; Ten (55.6%) of the group with sun exposure were male and 8 (44.4%) were female. In patients diagnosed with PHPT, the rate of VD levels <30 ng/mL was 89.7%, the rate of 20-29 ng/mL was 10.3%, the rate of <20 ng/mL was 79.4%, and the rate of <10 ng/mL was 42.6%. There was no difference between the groups in terms of VD levels (p: 0.156). Conclusion: There was no significant difference in VD levels in terms of sun exposure in patients with PHPT; but higher PTH and lower VD levels were observed in the group with less sun exposure.
