The essay aims to outline the archaeological knowledge acquired during the thirty-five years between 1985 and 2020 following the numerous excavations and research conducted in the area of the Imperial Forums. After a long period of inactivity following the demolition during the Fascist era for the opening of Via dei Fori Imperiali, the area returned to the center of scientific attention in the early 1980s and the excavation was planned. This was blocked in 1983, by the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and then finally begun only in 1998-2000 by the Superintendence of the Municipality of Rome. Other excavations have continued at this site up until the present day and have revealed a very articulated reality for each of the five Imperial Forums. The result was a new image of the Medieval events of the monumental complex characterized by an intense activity of dispossession, which almost made the buildings disappear, and by the reoccupation by the city. The city, in fact, which, since the central centuries of the Middle Ages, had been concentrated around the Forums of Nerva and Trajan, then expanded to the point of becoming one of the most densely inhabited sectors of modern Rome: the Alexandrian district. In conclusion, we intend to promote the use of this knowledge by encouraging its dissemination through the preparation of a special museum structure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
