Numerous slope failures have occurred due to climate change especially in tropical region. Rainfall become more extreme that cause more slope failures to occur. Rainwater could infiltrate in the soil and cause soil expansion that could potentially weakens the effective stress and causing slope failure. This paper aims to study the effects of extreme rainfall on slopes in Langat River, Selangor, Malaysia by modelling the existing slopes by using the finite element method software, Plaxis 2D. Results will be discussed in term of pore-water pressure, and factor of safety of the slope. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
