The paper presents additively manufactured components optimized using topology optimized techniques for automobile applications. To meet the current needs of market and to survive in the competition, topology optimization is one of the most effective tools to optimize a part/component to maximize its performance while reducing its weight. Additive Manufacturing (AM) technology is the emerging manufacturing process which enables design engineers to overcome the difficulties to manufacture the ideal but complex geometries. However, the low surface finish, long printing hours, and of post processing requirements frequently prevents industries from using AM technology as their main manufacturing method. The use of AM technology using topology optimization can help manufacture optimum shape along with advantages such as reduced usage of raw material, eliminating tedious manufacturing processes and converting it into a single body component by maximizing its stiffness with minimal mass. This paper highlights various case studies in automotive industry which made significant progress in this topic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
