This article focuses on the Third International Conference on Tourism and Hotel Industry in Indo-China and Southeast Asia held in Phuket, Thailand from June 4 to 6, 1998. The basis of the conference was to build on the foundations of the first two Indo-China and Southeast Asia conferences, which were held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The main theme of the conference was to discuss the issues on current development, marketing and sustainability of the tourism and hotel industry in Indo-China and Southeast Asia countries. The conference was comprised of six concurrent sessions and two general sessions covering a wide range of topics, including marketing, ecotourism, recreational tourism, cultural tourism, service quality, shopping tourism, distance learning, human resources management, casino gaming industry and tourism policy. The format included industrial case studies, conceptual framework proposals, and educational training issues. Through the discussions, a series of concrete recommendations were made on the tourism and hotel industry in the region. In terms of conference organization, the Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management, Prince of Songkla University did an excellent job in providing pre- and post-conference tours for those interested participants. Overall, the conference received high appreciation and was fruitful in bringing together such an extensive pool of divergently talented researchers in the tourism and hotel Industry.
