Linear economy as a one-way business model when it comes to the use of resources, is characteristic of most national economies. Issues of responsible management of natural resources, waste recycling and sustainable economic development are becoming crucial in the world economy of the 21st century. Circular economy represents the process of material (resource) circulation and its reuse, which simultaneously uses much less energy and water. The European Commission adopted the Action Plan for the circular economy in the EU countries in 2015, but some of the EU countries started implementing some parts of that plan almost 20 years earlier. The beginnings of the circular market in Serbia date back to 2017, in 2020 the Government adopts the roadmap for the circular economy in Serbia and 2022 Cirkular economy development program until 2024. The goal of this scientific research is to emphasize the importance of preserving natural resources for the next generations, with better living conditions for the wider social community through circular economy, and sustainable economic development. Linearna ekonomija kao jednosmjerni model poslovanja kada je u pitanju korištenje resusa karakterisičan je za većinu nacionalnih ekonomija. Pitanja odgovornog upravljanja prirodnim resursima, reciklaža otpada i održivi ekonomski razvoj postaju ključna u svjetskoj ekonomiji 21. vijeka. Cirkularna ekonomija predstavlja proces kruženje materijala (resursa) i njegovu ponovnu upotrebu čime se istovremeno koristi i mnogo manje energije i vode. Program razvoja cirkularne ekonomije do 2024.god. Cilj ovog istraživačkog rada je da istakne značaj očuvanja prirodnih resursa za sljedeće generacije uz kvalitetnije životne uslove za širu drušvenu zajednicu putem cirkularne ekonomije i održivog ekonomskog razvoja.
