Pregnancy-associated myocardial infarction is a rare but potentially life-threatening medical condition for both the mother and fetus. Its diagnosis and treatment represent a real challenge in medicine, as pregnancy-associated myocardial infarction often has adverse consequences. It should be noted, however, that there has been decreased mortality due to this condition recently. It is one of the main causes of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in pregnancy. Increased maternal age and advances in assisted reproduction are currently one of the reasons for the higher incidence of coronary artery disease during pregnancy. The most common etiologic factor for pregnancy-associated myocardial infarction is spontaneous coronary artery dissection. It should be noted that there are differences in the therapeutic approach compared to that of atherosclerotic coronary artery disease. In this article, we review the available literature regarding the etiology, risk factors, diagnosis, and treatment of myocardial infarction in pregnancy and after delivery. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
