Aim: A successful reintegration of pre-vocational secondary students with medical absenteeism is important to minimize negative effects on the individual and society. Youth healthcare physicians (YHCP) together with educational partners have an important role to help these students reintegrate. The aim of this study is to gain more insight in how YHCPs view their role in this reintegration-process, and to develop recommendations to improve reintegrative care. Methods: A qualitative study of semi-structured interviews with 10 YHCPs working in Southern-Limburg (The Netherlands) was conducted, using Grounded-theory for thematic analysis. Results: YHCPs role in reintegrative care remains unclear. Combined with an increase in complex problems they feel incompetent performing their tasks to aid re-integration. They press the need for clearer role descriptions for YHCPs and educational partners, in addition to the necessity to improve their re-integrative competencies. This will presumably improve the collaborative processes between the YHCP and educational partners. Conclusion: Reintegration in an educational context needs to be further developed with a clear role description and adequate education to improve re-integrative competencies. A second recommendation is to invest in intersectoral collaborative relationships to improve the reintegration-process of the student. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
