A recent study conducted in Tamil Nadu, India, focused on cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE) progressing to systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). CLE is a chronic skin disease characterized by scaly plaques that can also be seen in some SLE patients. The study found that certain risk factors, such as early age at diagnosis, female gender, specific skin types, presence of disseminated lesions, and certain blood markers, may predict the progression from CLE to SLE. The researchers suggest that assessing these parameters during diagnosis and follow-up visits could aid in the early detection of SLE and improve patient outcomes. [Extracted from the article]
