A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Colorado explored subtypes of depression symptoms in women during the peripartum period and the year after childbirth. The study collected self-report data from 587 women and used exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses to identify subtypes of depression symptoms. The findings revealed a five-factor solution that best fit the data, including anxiety/thought disorder, cognitive depression, suicide, somatic/neurovegetative, and sleep. The study suggests that screening for maternal mood disorders could have clinical benefits. [Extracted from the article]
