Researchers from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences conducted a study to investigate the association between body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) trajectories in childhood and adolescence with carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT) in early adulthood. The study followed 1265 participants aged 3 to 18 for 18 years and used regression analysis to analyze the data. The results showed that a high-increasing trajectory of childhood BMI and moderate- and high-increasing trajectories of childhood WC were associated with higher cIMT and a higher risk of high cIMT. The researchers suggest that monitoring and screening BMI and WC trajectories from childhood may help identify individuals at high risk of cardiovascular disease. [Extracted from the article]
