The article "What buyers want" deals with the negotiations between trade and industry in Germany. The top buyers in the trade have different values and personalities, but there are similarities in their statements. All buyers wish for negotiations "on an equal footing" and a partnership relationship. Rising costs are a point of contention, and if there is no agreement, there can be delivery stops or delistings. Some buyers from retail companies such as dm, Globus, and Lidl demand more performance and fairer prices from brand manufacturers. In order to become more independent from industrial partners, some companies rely on in-house production. The verticalization in trade is critically observed by the brand association, as retailers receive information about industry innovations and can bring them to the market before the brand manufacturers. It is emphasized that close cooperation and exchange between trade and industry are important to tackle common challenges such as inflation, societal changes, sustainability, and climate protection.
