A recent study conducted at the General Hospital of the Chinese People's Liberation Army in Beijing, China, evaluated the use of three-dimensional contrast-enhanced echocardiography (3DE) in measuring left ventricular mass (LVM) in patients with cardiomyopathies. The study included 69 patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, dilated cardiomyopathy, ischemic cardiomyopathy, and a control group. The results showed that contrast-3DE provided the best agreement with single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) in LVM measurement. The researchers concluded that administering contrast can effectively reduce the overestimation of LVM by non-contrast echocardiography methods. [Extracted from the article]
